Media Release: Australian research centre joins forces with China’s largest IT services provider

Beijing, China, November 24, 2011: The Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Infrastructure and Engineering Asset Management (CIEAM) today officially opened a joint research centre in conjunction with Neusoft, China’s largest IT solutions and service provider. Together with key stakeholders, the CIEAM Neusoft Research and Development Centre (CNRDC) will deliver strategic, whole-of-life solutions to asset owners and managers in China.

In a world first in the field, CIEAM and Neusoft have established a collaborative research centre in Beijing. The CNRDC will bring the capability of strategic infrastructure and asset management to China, enabling the world’s fastest growing economy access to cutting edge asset management technologies and the opportunity to engage Chinese industry to adopt a whole-of-life approach to asset management.

This unique partnership unites the outcomes of CIEAM’s seven years of collaborative research alongside key industry stakeholders, with the technological capability of Neusoft. The fusion of knowledge has the potential to bring to the marketplace a remarkable suite of state-of-the-art innovation which will result in global excellence in this discipline.

The opening of the centre was celebrated at a private gala event at Beijing’s Wangfuching Crowne Plaza and was attended by representatives of more than a dozen of China’s key asset owners and managers.

Senior leaders of CIEAM and Neusoft are thrilled with the partnership. “We already have a great association with Neusoft as a participant of the CRC”, says CIEAM CEO, Professor Joseph Mathew, “ the extension of this relationship to a joint research centre is sure to bring even greater research outcomes for the long term management of assets in both Australia and China.

Neusoft and CIEAM executives toast the opening of the CNRDC Senior executives from Neusoft and CIEAM toast the opening of the research centre. From L-R: Mr Limin Wang (Vice President-General Manager, North Region, Neusoft Corporation); Mr Xinje Rong (General Manager, Neusoft Venture Capital Ltd); Mr Ted Scott (Chairman, CIEAM); Prof Joseph Mathew (CEO, CIEAM).

Mr Xingjie Rong, CEO, Neusoft Venture Capital believes this alliance will pave the way for the implementation of strategic asset management practices in China. “Neusoft has identified CIEAM as a global leader in the provision of integrated engineering asset management solutions”, he said, “this relationship will enable Neusoft to develop the technical expertise to make a significant contribution to advanced asset management in China”.

The absence of a truly strategic, integrated approach to asset management has left Western society facing the challenges of ageing national infrastructure; under-investment in its maintenance; and a huge gap in addressing the associated climate and sustainability issues. China now finds itself in the enviable position of having the opportunity to implement planning measures that address all of these asset management issues in the early stages of urban development – a chance that most modern developed countries have simply not had. With China planning to invest CNY7 trillion (AUD 1.008 trillion) in urban public facilities over the next five years, the advent of CNRDC is indeed timely – if not visionary.
